The Mystery of Life.... Part Deux

So after getting home from work the terrain bug hit me so I decided to power through a number of pieces I had built. So here is Frostgrave Terrain part DEUX!!!

In my travels I had bought a bunch of resin accessories and immediately forgot about them. they have sit int he basement for the better part of 15 years or so and when I was looking for ideas they popped out as some to use!.  so I added some ruins with them to make some nice pieces.  I added a figure for scale as someone was asking.

I had two of these fountains and went for a frozen ice coming out by gloss coating the water area

Nice little vault door

I have 5 of each of these barrel blocks so they were a quick addition

Some sort of snake font or somthing.  after I painted I realized the snake must have originally been deisgned to be alive but I think it looks fine as a statue.

Another Fountain.

lots more to do having a lot of fun.

The Mystery of Life isn't a Problem to Solve, but a Reality to Experience

So I have been busily painting terrain for Frostgrave and having a lot of fun putting my feet first into building.

First up was a good find at Michaels.  A $5 birdhouse shaped like a castle.  Looked like a perfect Wizards tower.

First problem was the texture was way to flat so I got a can of texture spray paint and that cleared that up.

Next I added some bits from some old mordheim scenery sprues I had and added some doors.

Painted it up and added snow.

Next was a resin grave I found in my boxes of bits.  I have 6 of them and will prolly do them as individuals for scattering.  I might get some renedra gravestones and make a proper graveyard.  I have a mausoleum idea.

NExt up was my first try at a ruin.  I used pink for and Popsicle sticks. For the Floor I just used a piece of hardboard

Another shot

And Another

One more time

After painting and Snow.  Snow is very scatter someone mentioned to do them in drifts so I will try that on the next one.

I broke the last wire I had for my hot cutter so I am in hold till I can get another.

What Senses Do We Lack That We Cannot See or Hear Another World All Around Us?

So I spent the weekend working on my Basileans for Kings of War.  I am running some demos next weekend at Black Moon Games in Lebanon NH

3 Regiments of Elohi and 2 Heroes

Jullius, Dragon of Heaven Ur-Elohi Hero - 275 points

Samacris, Mother of Phoenixes Ur-Elohi Hero - 230 Points
The two have a synergy that if you take both when they are both on the field they get the elite special Rule

Elohi Regiment 1 - 195 points

Elohi Regiment 2 - 195 points

3rd Elohi Regiment - 195 points

Total is 1090 points

This is a very sepcialized elite force but it hits hard and fast.  if will be fun doing demos with them vs my abyssal (chaos) dwarves.

It is Impossible to Live in the Past, Difficult to Live in the Present and a Waste to Live in the Future.....

To Say I am excited about Frostgrave is an understatement.  :)  I have always enjoyed skirmish play and Mordheim was one of my favorite games so this was a no brainier when I hear about it months ago.  I have been painting like a fiend to have both my warband and the variety of monsters to add to the games.  I decided on partially frozen/snowed bases   So without further ado here is my work in progress.

Here is my warband.  had a lot of fun picking out the guys.  For the bases I used a black or grey sand mixture and then added snow with a product called snowtex.  When it is still wet I apply scenic water affects over it allowing it to be spread around and gives it a wet melting feel.

Grizzled Wizard and his young apprentice.  Both Reaper Bones.  Bot the bones figures I used Walmart white flat primer and then finished with testors dullcoat.  That seems to be the best combination to avoid that sticky problem with the bones plastic.

Hobbit and halfling burglers.  :)  Both Reaper Bones

2 Warhounds.  these are old GW Mordheim ones.

Knight and a Templar.  Both reaper Bones.  I really liked these figures

Ranger  can you say legolas!  Reaper Bones

Felsh Golem (Minor Construct), Minor Demon, Imp and Major Construct.  Reaper Bones

Ice Spiders, Rats and Wolves.  Wolves are Otherworld rest are Bones.

Ice Worm.  Love this mini.  Reaper Bones

Ice Trolls and a Frost Giant.  Giant is Bones and trolls are Ral Partha

Undead.  Skeletons, Ghoul, and Zombies are Mantic.  Vampire is Thoroughbred. and the Wrath is Reaper Bones.

Small piece of scatter terrain.  Old Grenadier resin.

Can wait to play some games!!!!

As Dawn Broke, on the Horizon, the Scourge of Humanity Continued Their Advance......

Yesterday I ran a All Quiet on the Martian Front Game at Black Moon Games in Lebanon, NH.  The Martians were advancing trying to take the town, with the humans Putting up a solid defense.

Here is the Setup.  The martian cylinder has landed on he far end of the board and the martians are starting to spread out.  The martians advanced and took a few shots but ultimately this was a turn to get into position.

The Humans took their turn and Alex took a very Aggressive tactic and took the fight right to the Martians.  Shots were fired and A scout tripod was taken out in the first turn.

The Humans maintained the initiative and pressed their attack on the tripods completely destroying the left flank and doing damage on the right.  The martians, however were now in rang for their sweeping heat rays and Doug was able to score so big hits on the human tanks.  Helping him out some.

It what seemed like pure punishment the Humans got initiative yet again and pressed their advantage even harder taking out an assault tripod and doing more damage on others.  Here the humans, having dispatched the flank are re positioning to engage the right with the rest of the troops.

Roll after roll, Alex's tactics paid off more and more as tripod after tripod took damage and exploded.  It was starting to look grim for the Martians, as with some quick rolling, the slaver and grenadier tripods were destroyed.

Down to 1 Assault tripod and 1 Scout remaining, the Martians pressed on.  All the Drones and slaves were useless as this point as the controller was destroyed. Moving around the town the martians were able to take out some more units, but the pressure was definitely on as the left flanks forces made their way through the town to engage the enemy.

With a loud BOOM the scout tripod explodes in a flash of cold fusion brilliance.  All that is left is the assault tripod as it lumbers its way into the town.  A weapon disabled is scored on the tripod which means whenever it shoots they will dice off to choose what the target will be.  Not good for the Martians last Fighting Machine....

The Martians are able to get their final tripod into town, but the weight of fire was just too great and with crack and a boom, the final tripod is brought down.  But at what cost to the humans........

All in all we had a great time playing.  Black moon is a wonderful venue and I plan to game their more often.  Check it out if you are in town.

As More of Their Cylinders Came from the Mysterious Depths of Space........

So we tried out a new scenario for All Quiet on the Martian Front last night.  I played a landed cylinder that was assembling forces and the humans had to destroy it before the forces overwhelmed.
So the rules were pretty simple.  The Martians start with a single scout tripod and the Cylinder.  The cylinder can do 2 actions per turn which include build, throw red weed bombs and gather extra materials to enhance their build points generated for the next turn.  At the end of the turn they will get the points to spend the next turn.  The US player starts the game with 3 infantry and 2 tank units and each turn rolls a die and gets either a tank or infantry unit that can move on the table as support.

Red weed is a new mechanic I added.  The Martian player places a red weed template anywhere on the table at least 6" away from enemy models.  Any model that moves within 6" of the template is trapped and cannot do anything.  It can be shot at with def 4, Armor 8 and takes 3 hits to remove from the table.  It gives the martian player the ability to block lanes and hamper the human advance.

Here are the forces remaining after setup.  You can see the command squad on the table.  this was a key component of the battle.

First turn the martians place a template and engage the small town by the cylinder.  In order to  unlock lobototons the martian needs to capture the small town with the infantry unit currently guarding it.  Richard opts to place a small template and generate extra build points for the next turn.  he then moves his scout to engage the small town.  He takes out an infantry stand and then retreats back to the cylinder.  Bob gains a armored infantry unit and opens fire on the red weed template destroying freeing up the movement of forces towards the cylinder.

Richards builds an assault tripod and moves it towards the forces.  Unfortunately he misses his shots (This becomes a recurring theme for Richard)Bob advances through the city trying to get some clear shots on the cylinder, scoring minor damage on the assault and scout tripods.

Being a little bottlenecked Bob manages to get some new tank units and moves them around the other side of the table.  Making use of the command points from his Command squad, he makes some steady progess doubling his movement.   Shooting remains however, abysmal for both sides.

The game progresses with the Martians taking out a few tanks but ultimately they advance to engagement range of the cylinder.  Even Heat ray sweeps seems to be missing left and right....Not good for the martians.

In a blaze of firepower, the humans are able to gain victory by destroying the cylinder with a lucky 9 shot on the tripod damage table.  Cylinder destroyed HUMAN VICTORY.

So what did I learn from the battle.  First off Martian shooting can really be abysmal.  lol  But seriously I think the red weed would work better as a modifier instead of a flat cannot do anything unless killed.  Command points made all the difference in the game as it allowed Bob to get his tanks into engagement range far quicker than usual.  All in all we had a good time.
